Western Hennepin County ASL Learners Group

This group was formed because there is nothing available in Western Hennepin for people interested in learning or improving their American Sign Language (ASL).

This group's purpose is to have regular interaction with Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HH) or hearing people fluent in ASL and who are willing to help us learn and practice ASL and improve our communication skills.

We have one Deaf mentor/instructor, but are interested in having additional Deaf/HH or hearing ASL instructors or lead or co-lead themed or free-form discussions. Signing leaders may change occasionally as ASL and interpreting students and Deaf individuals visit.

Opportunities to attend ASL and Deaf events will be shared-- or created!

Deaf and HH are welcome to attend-- to coach, share the version of signs you learned years ago or in a different geography, or just talk with us as we struggle to learn.

Cost is expected, but not guaranteed, to be $3-$12 per class, depending on number of participants, scheduling of instructors and space costs. Our informal classes will be 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours long. Come for part or all.

If you have a sincere interest in ASL, and learning about Deaf culture, and live near or in western Hennepin County, this group is for you.

First meeting Feb 23 in Maple Plain. Locations will vary. Learn more and join this group at http://www.meetup.com/Western-Hennepin-ASL-Learners-Group/.
