Washington Area Chamber Of Commerce

323 West Main Street
636-239-2715

The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of business and professional people, along with individuals, whose collective purpose is the promotion of the civic, industrial and commercial advancement for the community. The Chamber of Commerce speaks for collective business enterprise. In short, the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce serves as the clearinghouse for activity which will develop a better community for each business concern and its employees.

The Chamber has a strong awareness that this community is made up of people who are concerned with the future of the Washington area -- People who have pride. The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce believes that this fact should be kept in mind when it engages in the decision-making process. Cities don't just "grow". People "make cities happen" - people with vision and confidence. But it is common practice that in building cities, people often encounter problems beyond any one individual's ability to solve. It is then that they realize that they need help -- help in the form of an organization where they can join with others who have special expertise and interest in problem solving. This interest, of course, is not only in industry but in tourism and community service. Membership in the Chamber serves as an interdependent network through which large-scale projects can receive support and encouragement. Investing in a community can be compared to banking. You have to make a deposit before you can make a withdrawal. Certainly the Chamber cannot take exclusive credit for all positive developments in Washington, but with the Chamber acting as an advisor, many developments have come into being.

To delegate Chamber activities there are committees made up of board members and Chamber members. These committees include - Airport, Highway and Transportation, Home Show, Long Range Planning, Olde Fashioned Christmas, Retail, Tourism and Promotions, Membership/P.R., Council Liaison, Internal Affairs and Workshops.

The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce has long been a driving force in the community. It is the vehicle through which many action programs are generated. It is known to be the "Voice of Business" in the Washington area. But, the Chamber's strength and vitality comes only from a strong and supportive membership. In short, you need the Chamber and the Chamber needs you!
