Warren Township Fire Department

501 North Post Road

The Warren Township Fire Department provides public safety services to approximately one hundred thousand township residents, in a thirty-three square mile area. In providing these services, Warren firefighters and paramedics respond to over eight thousand emergency runs each year.

The majority of these emergency responses are for fire suppression and emergency medical care, but the department also specializes in tactical rescue and hazardous materials response as well.

The department is staffed with one hundred thirty paid professional firefighters and paramedics. These members respond from five stations distributed throughout the township.

Emergency apparatus includes five front line fire engines, one ladder, four medic ambulances, a hazardous materials truck, a tanker truck and various other support and reserve vehicles.

Department personnel are supported by a staff consisting of a fire chief, five division chiefs, two captains, a building inspector and three administrative assistants, at our headquarters in the Warren Township Governmental Center.

In addition to emergency response, the department is very active in numerous public education and community service events throughout the township. We take great pride in being able to reach all school age children in the township with fire safety talks at least one time each year.

As his house burned to the ground, there was nothing Fred Kiethley could do, but stand by and watch years of hard work and memories go up in a ball of flames. The devastating fire cost Mr. Kiethley and his family everything they had that fateful day in 1936. Shortly after the fire, 5 dedicated men, all focused on the same vision, decided the time had come to provide the eastside of Indianapolis with some type of fire protection.

The Warren Township Fire Department continued to grow and serve the citizens of Warren Township. One by one stations were added and fire protection was enhanced.

We now have 5 fire stations and 96 paid firefighters. The department is supplemented by over 30 volunteers who give their time to a variety of fire department duties. In 1998 we responded to over 6600 fire and medical emergencies.
