Mission Statement :

Walnut Elementary School provides a variety of educational experiences in an innovative, safe learning environment that encourages our students to work to their potential thereby developing into responsible citizens.

Vision Statement :

Walnut Elementary is an innovative partnership of school and community committed to helping each student develop a positive self-image and sense of self-worth, and to enable each student to reach his or her highest potential academically.

Beliefs

Walnut Elementary School believes the following to be true for our school community:

Every student can not only learn, but also excel when properly instructed and motivated.

Students learn to read in grades K-3, and read to learn in grades 3-6. Instruction should (and does) reflect this belief.

Students respond positively to higher expectations.

Students perform at a higher level when they are given distinct boundaries.

Teachers must effectively model what they desire their students to learn and do.

Teachers must be willing to evaluate methods, techniques and materials, and then change where needed.

Teachers, and all staff, must be actively involved in the decision-making processes of the school.

The learning environment of the school must first meet the basic needs of the students before we can be successful academically.

Parents are an important component of the overall education program of the school, and need to be actively involved in their children's education.

The entire community must support the efforts of the school for it to truly be as successful as possible.

These beliefs are an important aspect of the overall educational philosophy of Walnut Elementary School. We make every attempt to incorporate these beliefs into our practices on a day-by-day basis. We take our responsibility very seriously in educating these students, and we believe it shows.
