About Holy Family

As you leave the nave of the Church of the Holy Family after worship, you can't miss the inscription on the back wall which says: “Go in peace, and respect the dignity of every person.” These words have been our marching orders from the very beginning:

Go in peace, because you have paused in your busy week to stand in awe of a just, holy, and loving God.

Go in peace, because you have quieted your heart to hear God call and guide you.

Go in peace, because here you have sisters and brothers in Christ, who share your concern to understand and do God's will.

Respect the dignity of every human being, as you have promised to do since the day of your baptism.

Respect the dignity of every human being, because every human being is created in God's image, because Jesus stretched out his arms of love on the cross, so that all might come within his saving embrace.

Respect the dignity of every human being, even those who have lost their self-respect, even those who would see you as their enemies, even those who would do you harm.

History

In 1986, the founding members began meeting and worshiping together. The founding members had a big vision for the role Holy Family could play in north Georgia. From 1992 through 1998, Holy Family purchased just over 40 acres of land off Cove Rd. and built the "double-wide trailer" that was their first sanctuary. The acquisitions created a campus where the church could grow and develop new ministries without giving up the beauty of the surrounding country. In their desire to serve the community, the founding members also founded several organizations that provided much needed services.

In 1999 Garland Reynolds, FAIA was selected as the architect to design a new church. Mr. Reynolds designed a building that was respectful of the region and of the Cherokee influence in the area that is part of our heritage. Local artisans and craftsman made significant contributions to the building: Bill Durrett did the metal work; Gary Pichon built the woodwork for the altar, doors and ambo; Robert Pense did the stonework.

On Pentecost Sunday in 2002, Holy Family celebrated its first service in the new church building.

Today we express our love for each other and the God we serve in many different ways:

through our worship, prayers, music, and liturgy;

in our architecture and craftsmanship;

in the design and care of our landscaping and gardens;

on the trails which provide quiet time for reflection and meditation;

in our involvement in the many organizations founded or sponsored by Holy Family
