Mission

The Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church is to become a community of faith, in Christ, dedicated to sharing God's love with its members and others throughout the world.

History

Plans to establish a United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Arizona began just a few months after the first residents moved into the new Del Webb retirement community in late 1978. Shepherd of the Hills U.M.C. was formally organized in December 1979, with Worship Services held for several years in the community's Social Hall.

Land for our new Church building became available in 1982 and the present site was purchased that December. Following a successful Building Fund Campaign, ground was broken on Easter Sunday, 1984. The Service of Consecration for the new Church building was held in January 1986.

Further expansion of our facilities occurred in late 1993 with the completion of a new 14,000 square foot Fellowship Hall; a new and larger Choir Rehearsal Room; and additional staff offices and meeting rooms. A Columbarium and Scattering Garden were added a short time later. In late 2002, a free-standing Chapel was added to the Church Campus.
