Who We Are:

Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1915 by professional organizer Allen Browne under the name "The Benevolent Order of Brothers". It's original purpose was the "mutual exchange of preferred treatment in professional and business dealings". Within a year, the name had been changed to "Kiwanis", taken from an American Indian term "Nun Keewanis", which means roughly "we share our talents", "we express ourselves", "we make noise", and, the purpose of the organization became "community service". It is this humanitarian concept from which Kiwanis has never deviated.

The Kiwanis Club of Excelsior Springs was founded November 25, 1922, hailed as a club aggressive to work for the growth and betterment of Excelsior Springs and vicinity, the club remains aggressive today in its efforts to provide quality activities for area families.

Motto:

The motto of the Kiwanis is "We Build." The interpretation of the motto means service to city, state and nation, closer fellowship and discharge of one's civic duties to his community.
