Kiwanis Club Of Concord

History:
The Kiwanis Club of Concord was chartered in 1924, as part of Kiwanis International (KI). KI was established in Detroit, MI on January 21, 1915.

Since 1924 when it was chartered by Kiwanis International, the Concord Club has remained in continuous operation and has numbered among its members men and women of national, state and local stature.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.--Kiwanis defining statement, adopted October 2004.

These members meet weekly: meetings are one evening meeting the first Monday of each Month and the remaining weekly meetings are lunch meetings, club meetings include a speaker.

This weekly activity is all that many people ever see of Kiwanis in action, but this alone does not build a community - however, it does build fellowship and enduring friendships.

The real work of Kiwanis is done quietly and without fanfare in its service projects: boxing food for the Women Infant and Children Program, ringing the Salvation Army Bell every Holiday Season, maintenance work on Kiwanis Hall at Camp Spalding and at the Kiwanis Riverfront Park at the Everett Arena, as well as in its fundraising events, the annual Kiwanis Spring Fair (since 1956) and Kiwanis Car Show each September (since 1986).

Kiwanis fundraising has provided clothing to those without other means. Kiwanis fundraising has also provided annual assistance to the NHTI EMT program,  and donations to the Holiday Food Basket.

Help is provided to Camp Spaulding both through contributions and labor. Children are sent to other summer programs when special needs arise.

And the work goes on, in assistance to organized groups, and to local charities. The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute - presently at the New England Medical Center in Boston and Hartford Hospital, in  Hartford, CT, and eventually expanded throughout New England - are generously supported by Kiwanis Club of Concord.
