Heritage Produce At Shelton Herb Farm

Heritage Produce At Shelton Herb Farm
Heritage Produce was established in 2010 by Margaret Bowen and is located at Shelton Herb Farm on Goodman Road in Leland. Margaret began organic vegetable production in 2009 in Bolivia, NC, and relocated her farming operation to Leland in the spring of 2010. At Heritage Produce we believe in nurturing the land and improving the environment through sustainable and organic farming practices. We work with nature to build the healthiest soils and to grow the freshest and tastiest produce to sell locally. Although we are not currently certified organic, all of our produce is grown without the use of synthetic or harmful pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. We primarily sell our produce through our CSA program and to local restaurants, but also sell under the Shelton Herb Farm tent at various local farmers markets such as Southport waterfront, downtown Wilmington, and Wrightsville Beach.

Our CSA runs three season a year, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each season runs for 8 weeks and costs $200. In exchange, each week you will receive a basket of produce freshly picked from the farm. Although we are not currently certified organic, all of our produce is grown without the use of synthetic or harmful pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. We grow a variety of different vegetables depending upon the season. Many of our vegetables are unique and not often found in the grocery store such asTatsoi greens, ahi dulce peppers, and Rosa Bianca eggplant. We also have your more quintessential produce like collard greens, green beans, okra, and carrots. The contents of your basket will not only depend upon the season, but the weather, too. Some plants may do better than others depending upon the weather. By being a member of a CSA you share both the risks and the benefits along with the farmer.

We have an exciting variety of vegetables planned for our Spring share including Asian greens (Kailaan and Tatsoi), arugula, broccoli, broccoli sprouts and greens, beets, Swiss chard, cabbage, carrots, Fava beans, Italian dandelion greens, kale, kohlrabi, lettuces and salad mixes, mustard greens, spring onions, garden peas, radishes, turnip greens, fresh herbs, and flowers. The basket may also include some value-added goods such as flavored vinegars, jellies and breads. The Spring CSA will begin at the end of March and run until the end of May.
