Dublin Presbyterian Church is committed to outreach, both within our local community and to the world

History

In the fall of 1988, five members of the Dublin community met with Rev. Fran Nagy and several members of the Scioto Valley Presbytery about the possibility of organizing a church in Dublin.

Interest classes began in January 1989 at the Dublin library and then at the Middle school. Approximately 25-30 people attended these classes on a regular basis.

The first service was Easter 1989 in the Commons Area at the Scottish corners Elementary School, led by Rev. Fran Nagy.

Regular services began in fall 1989. Rev. Thomas McGloshen was pulpit supply until an organizing pastor was hired. Rev. McGloshen served as moderator of the Steering Committee, which acted in many ways as a Session. All major decisions were made by the Presbytery.

The Presbytery call Rev. Stan Hall as organizing pastor in April 1990. Stan and his wife, Rev. Gail Snodgrass moved here from Indiana. We continued to meet at Scottish Corners, then moved to Indian Run Elementary. We were chartered on April 12, 1992. Rev. Hall left at the end of June to teach at the Presbyterian Seminary in San Antonio, Texas.

Rev. Wayne Weiss became interim pastor in August 1992. During the time he was interim, we moved our services to the 1919 Building (Old Dublin High School).

Dublin Presbyterian called Rev. Alex McDougall in October 1993. Rev. McDougall and his wife, Mary, moved from New York to Dublin in December. The building committee was in place and ready to begin when Alex arrived.

The Presbytery had purchase property on Dublinshire Drive. We hired Meacham & Apel for the design of the church, Gutknecht Construction was contracted to build our facility. Cullen Art Glass did all the stained glass work and interior design. Groundbreaking was in January 1996, and we had the dedication service in our new building on December 8,1996.

In November 2000, Rev. McDougall announced he would be leaving to begin and interim call at a Presbyterian church in Zanesville, Ohio. He left at the end of December 2000.

Rev. Dana Knapp, Executive Presbyter, provided pastoral leadership until Rev. Charles Stenner (retired) joined us in February and provided leadership and care while the Nominating Committee began their work.

In March 2001, Rev. Janice Hillkerbaumer was called by Dublin Presbyterian Church to be our Designated Pastor. She began her ministry with DPC in April 2001. Janice and her husband, Rev. Don Hilkerbaumer (minister at Plain City Presbyterian Church), were already living in the central Ohio area. During Rev. Hilkerbaumer's tenure, membership has thrived, and many new initiatives, such as LOGOS have begun.

In February 2003, the Session recommended that a call be extended to Rev. Hilkerbaumer to become our full-time pastor, and on March 16, 2003, the congregation overwhelmingly approved that call. We are grateful to God that Janice accepted and continues her faithful leadership with us today!
