812 Fourth Avenue
507-831-1134

Purpose:

The purpose of the Society is to collect, preserve, and disseminate knowledge about the history of the county.

History:

Cottonwood County was established by the Territorial Legislature May 23, 1857. Because of the Minnesota Sioux Uprising of 1862, permanant settlement of the county did not begin until 1869. County government was formally organized in 1870 and county records date from that time. The Cottonwood County Historical Society had its begining with the meeting of pioneer settlers in October 1901.
