Wolverton History:

Miller's Station
: Before there was a little town named Wolverton, there was a small trading post named Miller's Station.  It was an outlet for grain on the Red River, one mile north of Wolverton.

Miller's Station also had a small post office.  The post office was established in 1878 with Louis M. Miller as postmaster.  In 1881, the name was changed to Jacksville and continued to serve the early settlers on both the Minnesota and North Dakota sides of the Red River for a number of years.

The name of Wolverton replaced Miller's Station/Jacksville after the settlement one mile south grew and continued to grow after the railroad was built through the country.

William Dilts Wolverton, served at Fort Abercrombie, ND. He acquired thousands of acres of land.  Soldiers were given land as payment for serving with the army.  The solldiers being anxious to return to their homes sold their acreage to Dr Wolverton for as little as $5.00 an acre.  The story goes one soldier sold some of his land for a plug of tabacco.

After a time Dr. Wolverton in turn sold the land again.  The last acreage he sold was the Wolverton Farm, which he sold for $22.00 an acre.

William Dilts Wolverton died July 20. 1922, at his farm in New Jersey where he lived since his retirement in 1894.
