About Richmond
Richmond is a friendly town rich in Texas History and Western Culture. Dating from Stephen F. Austin's settlement on the banks of the Brazos River, Richmond welcomes you to enjoy its rich history and friendly, helpful people.
You will like strolling down quiet neighborhood streets lined with massive oaks while you visit historic homes and the Fort Bend County Museum. You'll be reminded that history's figures such as Mirabeau B. Lamar, Carrie Nation and Deaf Smith once walked along these same streets.
Richmond is also the home of Oak Bend Medical Center, a state of the art health care facility, and the home of one of the finest library systems in the state of Texas --- The George Memorial Library. Richmond is a short drive to the George Ranch Historical Park, where families can experience turn-of-the-century cattle drives and Confederate Encampments during Texian Market Days.
And, don't forget, from Richmond, you're only minutes away from the largest telescope open to the public anywhere in the nation at the George Observatory and, the fascinating Brazos Bend State Park.
