Milaca is located at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 169 and Minnesota Highway 23 along the beautiful Rum River. Milaca has a vibrant business district and a thriving industrial park. The city is ready to work with new businesses and residents to make Milaca their home.

Milaca is located in Mille Lacs County in East Central Minnesota approximately 60 miles from Minneapolis. Milaca residents vote in the U.S. Congressional District 8 and Legislative District 17A

The current population of Milaca is 2,729 compared to 2,585 at the time of the 2000 census. The population of Mille Lacs County is 25,598.

The Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development lists the Milaca Public School district as Milaca's largest employer, employing approximately 220 individuals. The next four largest employers include Gorecki Manufacturing with 196, Mille Lacs County, 188, the Elim Nursing Home, 160, and TriVirix International employing 60.

A total of just over 1,200 employees are numbered among the top 14 employers in the city. The total workforce in Mille Lacs County is numbered at approximately 8,633, with an average unemployment rate of 5. 6 percent in Mille Lacs County and an estimated unemployment rate of 3.8 percent in Mille Lacs and adjoining counties.

Milaca is served two phone companies, Citizen's and Milaca Local Link. East Central Energy serves the area with electricity service and Minnegasco is the natural gas company in the area. Water and waste water treatment is provided by the City of Milaca.

The local weekly newspaper is the Mille Lacs County Times, published by ECM Publishers Inc. headquartered in Coon Rapids Mn.

Milaca is the home of three banks including Bremer Bank, First National Bank of Milaca and Greater Minnesota Credit Union.

Local medical facilities include Fairview Northland Clinic with 4 doctors and many other doctors and specialists available through the Fairveiw Northland Health Systems to supplement the excellent care offered at the clinic. In addition, there are two dentists and two optometrists in practice in Milaca.

The Milaca Public School system is made up of an elementary school for students grades pre-school - 6th grade and a secondary school grades 7-12. There are two parochial schools in the area; Community Christian School in Pease MN, and Faith Christian School located west of Foreston.

The city government is organized with a five member city council which includes four council members and the mayor. The daily operation of the city is accomplished under the direction of the city manager. Regular council meetings are held the third Thursday of each month. Special meetings are called in accordance with applicable laws regarding public notice of the area residence which is primarily accomplished through the local newspaper and other internal advertising procedures.

The city has in place a comprehensive land use plan, two locally controlled revolving loan programs, recycling programs.

Health and safety of Milaca residents is ensured by a 25 member volunteer fire department and a police force led by the chief of police and five licensed peace officers in cooperation with the county sherrif's department as needed. Emergency medical services are provided in the county by privately owned emergency medical agencies.
