Godspell, JR

A Rising Stars Series Production

August 13 - 27

Purchase tickets HERE

Also this month on our historic stage is the Woodland Opera House education program presentation of the Rising Stars Series production, Godspell, JR. Running August 13-27, it is based on the Broadway musical that inspired a generation, the show will be performed by an incredible all youth cast comprised of performers aged 11-18 years old.

The original Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award-winner, Stephen Schwartz, and it took the world by storm. Boasting a score with chart topping songs (such as "Day by Day"), Godspell, JR is a sensation that continues to touch audiences. A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, story- telling techniques, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.

Pictured are Sammy Rosendale (top of photo) who plays John the Baptist/Judas and & Owen Brian who plays Jesus.

Performances will be on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. & Sundays at 7:00 p.m. All seats reserved. Main floor: Adults $16, Seniors (62+) $14, Children under 17 $8. Balcony: Adults $10, Children $6.

Our first Theatre For Families production of the new season will open next month and run September 9-18. Presented by Jennifer Goldman, D.D.S. & Amy Thu Tran, D.D.S. is Dear Edwina.

The heartwarming musical about the joys of growing up is from the creators of Junie B. Jones the Musical. Thirteen-year-old Edwina would do anything to be a part of the Kalamazoo Advice-a-Palooza Festival. While her siblings both have proof of their accomplishments, poor Edwina has nothing. When a talent scout visits her hometown, she trots out her musical advice, giving shows live from the family garage in hopes of finding her place in the spotlight.
