Join the Nordic Culture Clubs and Icelandic Roots as we Celebrate our Nordic Heritage with a 560 Connect event with the Moorhead Business Association.

Hosted by the Rourke Art Museum, enjoy an evening of art, wine, food and a display of Icelandic books from the Moorhead Public Library.

Walk along with curator, Sunna Olafson Furstenau as she tells the story of the Icelandic Emigration Journey shown through large outdoor panels depicting the Icelanders life from Turf Homes to Prairie Homesteads.

Dine on Icelandic appetizers and sample wines from Björnson Vineyard and Matthiasson Winery--these two winemakers have strong ties to Mountain, ND where many Icelandic emigrants settled after making the long journey across the Atlantic ocean.

This event is part of the Nordic Culture Clubs Scandinavian Festival Week leading up to the 2-Day Scan Fest on June 23-24, 2023 at the Hjemkomst Center and Viking Ship Park with Iceland as host country.

This is a free event, so come and learn about Iceland: the land of fire and ice at the Rourke Museum's M.-Dorian-Clemedtson-Sculpture-Courtyard.

In Sweden, Midsummer midsommar is when the majstång or maypole is erected and danced around.

Midsummer is a time of greenery, flowers and flower crowns, dancing around the maypole, singing traditional songs, wearing Swedish national costumes, and celebrating the beautiful summer weather.

Midsummer eve sometimes includes bonfires and legends say that any girl who picks seven wildflowers on midsummer and places them under her pillow will dream of the person she will marry.

The Swedish Society in Fargo celebrates Midsommar with a maypole, dancing and singing, and a summer outdoor potluck. Flower crowns and traditional costumes are encouraged, but not required.
