From: Mesquite Weekend

Mesquite Weekend is all about learning how to use, eat, grow, and promote the three native Arizona Mesquite trees: Screwbean, Honey, and Velvet.

Come on out to Golden Valley, Arizona (a hamlet nestled between Kingman and Bullhead City) to taste mesquite in it’s many forms, meet other people interested in permaculture, homesteading, natural living, and of course, the three awesome native Arizona Mesquite trees, and enjoy a slow weekend in a small town right off of historic route 66.

Bring your appetite for adventure.

During the two day Mesquite Weekend in beautiful Golden Valley, Arizona we’ll be celebrating all things Mesquite but … what IS Mesquite? Mesquite is a type of native tree that grows all over the Sonoran desert. Here in Arizona, there are three kinds of native Mesquite: Screwbean, Honey, and Velvet.

You may have heard of Mesquite wood for grilling and not realized that the tree could be used in so many ways. The wood can be used to build things. The pods can be eaten raw or ground into flour to bake pancakes, muffins, cakes, or anything else you can use flour for. Flour from the mesquite pods is low on the glycemic index so foods made with it are sweet but can be eaten by diabetics. The flowers have been used to make teas that treat tummy aches. Overall, the Mesquite tree is an amazing resource. Come out to Mesquite Weekend Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th to learn more.

This ticket allows one person entry into the mesquite pancake breakfast, the Seed Exchange, fair entry and a gift bag. During the pancake breakfast, each ticket holder will be allowed one plate including mesquite pancakes, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit, and drinks. The pancake breakfast is from 8am to 10am Saturday, March 25th. The Seed Exchange is at the same building from 8am to 11am Saturday, March 25th. The fair is Sunday, March 26th at Veteran’s Park in Golden Valley. During the fair, the Arizona Mushroom Society will provide a workshop on growing your own mushrooms. If you have a wristband, you will be able to spawn your mushroom bag at the workshop and leave with your own mini mushroom farm.
