Parks & Planning Updates:
Upcoming Park Closures:
Silva Valley LLAD and Stonegate LLAD sidewalks will be closed beginning April 3rd for repairs. An alternate route for pedestrians will be provided.
Deputy Jeff Mitchell Field Road from Bertelsen Park to Brooks Elementary School will be closed from April 3rd-9thfor repairs.

Presentations from Brooks Elementary 4th Graders:
Brooks Elementary School teacher, Mr. Trever Crowson, contacted the District in January 2023 about a collaboration with the District’s Planning Department and his 4th grade class. Mr. Crowson’s idea was to create a public speaking/mock design project for his fourth-grade class. Since Brooks Elementary is located adjacent to Jeff Mitchell field and Peter Bertelsen Memorial Park, the class used the current park as inspiration for their project designs and presentations.
Principal Planner, Jeff Kernen, met via zoom and in-person at Bertelsen Park with the students. Mr. Crowson’s 4th grade class was charged with creating a company name, designs, and a presentation to support their ideas. On March 14, 2023, six student groups presented ideas as they spoke to their audience, including their classmates, District staff, parents, and family members.
Some of their proposed ideas included creating dog parks and re-creating and enhancing the current playground. The project ideas were creative and brought hands-on learning into the classroom. Principal Planner Kernen and District staff were very impressed by the hard work and dedication each child brought to their assignment.
