A Successful Haunted City Hall-oween, Oct 29th, 2022

The City of Seymour held their second annual Haunted City Hall this past Saturday. The City of Seymour’s staff all set up their department vehicles, dressed up and held an awesome event for the children of Seymour. After one hour of trunk or treating through Haunted City Hall, the City of Seymour held a Halloween Costume Contest. Fifty-five children participated in the competition. After the contest the City of Seymour showed the movie Goosebumps that was well attended.

The City of Seymour of Seymour also served over three-hundred free hotdogs, drinks, and chips to those who attended. All the food was donated by United Supermarkets of Seymour. City Councilman Les Hons prepared the hotdogs with his son Garret Hons. The City of Seymour would like to thank all those who attended and those who set up additional extra trunk or treat vehicles.

Department Reports

The Street Department as reported by Supervisor Shawn Sanchez completed picking up the remainder of the junk from “Cleanup Week!” The team patched potholes in town and assisted at the transfer station due to the high volume of trash from cleanup week. The Street Department mowed portions of the airport and responded to work orders from the community.

City of Seymour Police Department reported they investigated a forgery case, conducted an accident investigation, mediated a civil dispute over a child custody issue, and assisted with a juvenile to receive MHMR assistance. The Police Department is also in the process of adding an additional police officers to the department.

The Water Department supervisor Chase Hoyt and company completed the repairing of the Whiteside Street Lift Station. The Water Department then fixed a water leak on McLain Street near the hospital, filled holes from water repair leaks, and completed work orders that were submitted from the city’s customers. The Water Department spent time working on future water line grants, spent time preparing for the winter weather that will be coming our way soon, and diagnosing issues with the Water Department’s backhoe that began leaking oil. The backhoe is a very important tool imperative for the work of the Water Department.

The City of Seymour Electric Department under the supervision of Anthony Arjes began their week with routine maintenance of their vehicles, weekly readings of reclosures, and performed line locates as requested by customers. The Electrical Department then temporarily disconnected a service on West California so that a new storage building could be set and then reconnected the service line. The department assisted the Street Department with cleanup week for several days, began installing electrical service for the new workshop at Salt Fork, and reconnected a neutral that was causing power issues at multiple residences.

The Electric Department then disconnected a service line that was hit on West California and started planning for extra electrical outlets for the Christmas light display at the City Park.

The RO Plant supervisor John Davis reported Over the course of the last week, the Reverse Osmosis Plant produced 3.7 (3.9 last week) million gallons of treated water that was distributed to the City of Seymour and Baylor County Special Utility District. During the week plant operators monitored the chlorine levels at points throughout the distribution system, monitored the amount of wastewater discharged from the plant, collected the monthly labs that monitor our water supply for microbial contaminants, completed the end of the month reports for TCEQ, and worked on updating the drought contingency plan.
